An Open Letter To Oprah Winfrey On The Coming Pandemic!

Dear Oprah,

I’ve always enjoyed your shows and I admire your efforts to make a positive difference to millions of lives through your shows and charitable projects.

Why am I writing an open letter to you? Because of your popularity I know it will attract millions of people to read this letter too and be aware that one person could make a big difference and together we can be a powerful force for good! I also will like many hosts of talk shows to read this letter on the possibilities and influence they could make to make this world a better place by warning people and asking them to write letters to their leaders.

You came into my mind after I’ve written an article: “An Open Letter To Presidents, Prime Ministers, Health Ministers and Billionaires” The objective of this article is to seek the help of leaders who can improve the preparation and support system for the next pandemic!

I asked: “If you are a president, prime minister or health minister of a country, ask yourself these important questions: "Can you sleep in peace every night knowing that you have done everything you could to protect your people from the impending pandemic?" When it comes to judgment day, how are you going to answer those millions of souls who lost their lives and those who lost their loved ones on why what could have been done wasn't acted upon?"

The tsunami killed hundreds of thousands of people because we did not have an effective warning system in place, with the latest technology, scientists knew about the undersea earthquake and they knew that it will trigger a tsunami but the people were not given fair warnings? Why? Did the countries and scientists co-operated and communicated well? Were the communication system in place?

Did the government leaders ensure that they have invested enough to have an effective tsunami warning system? Now with the pandemic you have an "invisible tsunami" and this time if we do no get our act together and do the right things, millions of lives will be lost! Hundreds of thousands of people died in the tsunami in December 26, 2004 and many were not warned of the impending disaster and especially children they were not educated on what is a tsunami? Many children died because they were not warned on the signs of a tsunami, there were lots of children still playing at the beach when the tide suddenly receded and fishes were found stranded on the shores and children and adults who were ignorant about the signs of a tsunami just stood there and watched!

Our duty, responsibility and moral obligation is to educate and warn people about the impending pandemic which I call the invisible tsunami because many people still do not know about it and because it is a virus and cannot be seen with the eyes it will spread faster and further than a tsunami and kill millions of people! The time to be prepared is now and if you are a leader or head of an agency that is responsible for preparing the country for the impending pandemic, my trillion dollar question to you is how prepared are you and your team for the next flu pandemic?

The bird flu HFNI virus was discovered in 2005 and it was a wake up call for WHO, governments and the public to be well prepared for the next pandemic!

The trillion dollar question is “How prepared are we for the next pandemic?” Below are extracts from articles from the media in 2005 and my warning: “The time to build up your immune system is now and everyone should take responsibility for their health because by doing this we can greatly reduce the number of deaths and reduce the spread of the viruses. We all should do our part to write to our governments and one way you can contribute is to make people more aware of the dangers of the impending pandemic."

The WHO has already issued several public warnings and the next trillion dollar question is “How prepared are the governments, medical practitioners and hospitals for the next pandemic?

Here are the stern warnings from government officials and medical experts:

Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, said the threat of a deadly pandemic is growing. He said the emergence of a deadly pandemic is just a matter of time. Share these warnings with as many friends as possible because our lives depend on it and hopefully this collective intelligence will reach the leaders of countries to take action now and get the doctors, nurses and hospitals prepared for the next pandemic!

"Pandemics happen," said HHS Secretary Mike Leavitt in a teleconference today. "They happened before, and they'll happen again. If it isn't the H5N1 [bird flu] virus, it'll be another virus."

"A focus on one antiviral is misplaced," said HHS Secretary Leavitt. "There's no certainty that they'll be effective."

Millions worldwide are oblivious to the dangers of the impending pandemic and I called it the “invisible tsunami” The casualties and death toll will be beyond your imagination! Besides prayers, we must do our part to ensure people stay healthy and are aware of the impending pandemic and make sure the governments and relevant agencies are well prepared for the next pandemic!

To be forewarned is to be forearmed. It is a well known fact that there are no known cures for these deadly and contagious viruses and those who survived these viruses had a strong immune system!

There were five important lessons we should learned from SARS in 2003 and bird flu in 2005

1. The WHO, government leaders and medical and support systems must be well prepared for the next pandemic.

2. Nations must co-operate and share information fast and effectively to contain the pandemic and reduce the number of deaths.

3. People worldwide must take responsibility for their health now by boosting up their immune system which is their only hope for survival in an epidemic or pandemic.

4. We must reduce poverty and the number of slums because these are the places that will trigger a pandemic and whenever there is a natural disaster or a state of emergency, all nations must act fast to co-operate to prevent a pandemic from happening!

5. We must help the underdeveloped nations to have the infrastructure and support systems to contain and prevent a pandemic from spreading to other countries.

Many natural disasters are triggered by global warming and mother nature is giving her stern warnings that all leaders of the world must take action now to reduce pollution and global warming before millions of lives will be lost!
